Waste Management

The Regional Municipality of Waterloo is responsible for the collection of garbage and recycling. 

All residents receive:

  • weekly collection of garbage, maximum of 6 bags or cans per week
  • weekly or bi-weekly collection of recyclables
  • once per month collection of large items

If you receive weekly blue box recycling collection:

  • you will now receive curbside bi-weekly yard waste collection from April-November
  • you will receive curbside Christmas tree collection

Electronic Waste

Electronic waste can now be dropped off for free at a number of locations. Residents are restricted to 2 items per day. Visit the recycle your electronics website for locations, events, and hours.

Cardboard can now be dropped off on Saturday at the Greenfield Road transfer station (there is no limit to how much). As well, cardboard can be out out with your regular recylcing on your waste pick up day, as long as it is bound together in one pile.

Blue Bins Provided at Township Office

Blue bins are no longer provided free of charge by the Region of Waterloo. Residents looking to replace their blue bins must purchase one from a local hardware store that carries them.

One complimentary blue bin is available, first come, first serve, for home owners or renters in North Dumfries. The blue bin must be picked up at the Cambridge Waste Transfer Station or Waterloo Landfill (addresses listed above, under "Residential Landfill Hours and Locations") In order to take advantage of the one free blue bin, new residents must:

1. Be either new to the Region of Waterloo or be in a new home within the Region.

2. Customer must supply proof of a new home/renter (i.e., a purchase agreement or rental contract)

3. Customer allowed only ONE new Blue Box. If they require a second box or a replacement box they can be purchased at hardware or retail stores. Prices range from $7 to $10 dollars.

4. Customer is required to fill out the form (supplied by Region) with name, address, phone number, email (if they wish) and
     whether they are in a new home or new to the Region.
